Q

What are your main products?

A

We produce car body structural parts, fuel tanks, transmission components, plastic parts, and other parts. See Product Information for details.

Q

What issues are you currently focusing on?

A

CO2 emissions need to be controlled in order to prevent global warming, and automobiles are one of the major source of such emissions. As a company involved in the automobile industry, we are working to make car bodies lighter to improve fuel consumption. Using thinner steel plate is a good way of making car bodies lighter, but simply reducing the thickness of such plate also reduces car bodies' strength and is detrimental to collision safety. By promoting the use of high-tensile steel, which are light yet hard and strong, we aim to create lightweight components that also offer high strength. Shaping high-tensile materials in a press is a very challenging task, but with our world-class press technology we are expanding the scope of products for which such materials can be used and helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

Q

What is high-tensile steel plate?

A

High-tensile steel plate is harder and stronger than regular steel plate. Regular steel plate is strong enough to bear 30 kilograms per square millimeter, while high-tensile steel plate has enough strength to bear 38135 kilograms. High-tensile materials enable us to create lightweight components that are also safe in the event of a collision, but since they are harder than normal steel plate, advanced technologies are required to process them.

Q

In which business areas do you expect future growth?

A

We expect to see growth in all main product groups:
<Car body products>
We anticipate sales growth driven by higher sales volumes in China.
An increase in sales is forecast with the scheduled commencement of operation in India in 2010.
<Transmission products>
If customers continue to switch to stamping methods for cast and forged components as precision press technology advances, sales can be predicted to expand. In October 2008 we started selling torque converters for automatic transmissions.
In the automatic transmission torque converter business, which Unipres entered in October 2008, sales are expected to expand if the number of equipment types using our torque converters continues to increase.
<Plastic-pressed products>
In order to reduce air resistance and improve fuel efficiency, manufacturers are fitting under-floor covers to more of their cars. Our plastic press technology is ideal for producing such covers, so if use of these parts increases we can expect to see sales rise.

Q

What is your dividend policy?

A

Unipres Corporation regards stable return of profits to shareholders as a key management issue. Based on this principle, each fiscal year we consider overall business performance and other factors, and continue to pay out stable dividends at an appropriate level.

Q

What is your securities code?

A

5949 (Japanese securities identification code).

Q

On which stock exchange are the companys shares listed?

A

The First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
