Achieving both light body weight and safety is a tough problem to solve. Simply making the steel plate thinner to save weight diminishes its collision strength. Unipres employs HTSS forming technology along with product design technology to solve this dilemma. By applying our expertise in structural parts, we are aiming for further weight reductions.

Building on our car body press technology, we developed innovative technology for producing transmission parts by means of precision pressing, in place of the conventional casting, forging, and cutting processes. Along with high strength and 1/1000mm-level precision processing, considerable cost savings can be realized. In addition, by pursuing highly efficient manufacturing aimed at resource conservation and CO2 reduction, we are helping to protect the earth. High tensile strength steel (HTSS) forming technologyWorld-class technology taking advantage of the characteristics of light, strong HTSS
High tensile strength steel (HTSS) retains sufficient strength even when formed to thin and light shapes. Processing HTSS, however, requires highly advanced press technology. To take advantage of HTSS at Unipres, we employ forming analysis to predict the final shape and incorporate the forming conditions in our dies while controlling stress. We now use HTSS in 60 percent* of main body structural parts. *As of 2013
Product design technologyOverall body structure optimization is achieved by treating all structural parts as a system.
Taking a systematic view of the structural parts and reviewing the body structure accordingly, we propose optimal solutions for meeting automaker needs and required performance and raising production efficiency. The proposals may include rethinking the division into parts and the materials used, for example, so that certain reinforcement parts can be eliminated, improving material yield and productivity while greatly reducing cost and weight. At Unipres we have developed our own analytical tools for deducing optimal solutions, significantly shortening the analysis time leading to proposals.
