Automobiles are convenient yet dangerous
While handy and indispensable in our daily lives, injuries from automobile accidents continue unabated.
Unipres believes it is the responsibility of all companies involved in automaking to help ensure road safety by preventing pedestrians and cyclists from injury and continually improve vehicle safety to protect vehicle occupants.

Modern automobiles are equipped with a wide array of safety features and these are evolving daily. There are cases, however, where collision avoidance braking systems and airbags are not able to fully protect vehicle occupants. The safety of the body frames produced by Unipres therefore becomes critical. Electric vehicles' batteries add to their weight, which increases the impact during collisions, and they thus require more robust body frames. Yet, making the entire body frame too rigid prevents it from absorbing the impact of a collision, conversely increasing the risk of injury.

Creating components that underpin collision safety performance through advanced press technologies

Vehicles can be impacted from a variety of directions. To protect occupants from any angle of impact, car body frame parts must have the ability to absorb the shock of collisions and prevent cabin deformation. To achieve this, frames are designed with both rigid and soft areas to ensure they crumple in ways that minimize the danger from impacts. Additionally, electric vehicles need structures that prevent the battery from being impacted or deformed. To create such structures, each component of a car body frame varies in thickness, strength, and size and also needs to have complex shapes. Unipres has established a system for conducting in-house structural analysis of car frames, allowing it to propose optimal car body structures that balance crash safety performance and weight reductions right from the development stage. In the mass production stage, Unipres utilizes the press technologies it has cultivated to differentiate its approach to each component, producing components that meet the requirements for both strength and complexity of shape.
